Day 10 – Las Vegas

I know our RV is over 8 years old, but we I have become very attached to it as it does the business. I tend to look at it as a male, well-traveled but a little worn around the edges. However, when we woke the next morning, our RV had turned red with embarrassment. Parked in the next bay was the latest model with shiny chrome and a fancy paint job – yelling look at me, look at me. Not only that, but outside this strutting peacock of a van was a gleaming Harley. We both watched with some envy as the owner caressed is machine with oils and cloths and then an understanding set in that our neighbour may be a pretty beast but she definitely had not seen the places or had the travelers that our behemoth had experienced. So I went back to polishing my next blog and our RV settled down on its worn springs for another day of undisturbed rest.
We had a well-deserved day of lounging, reading, swimming before setting out for the strip to see a show. The common consensus was Mama Mia and so we shot to the Mandalay and then on the monorail to the Luxor and the Exalibur, just to take in the sights. The hotels all looked as if some set designer from Disney had moonlighted for the Summer.
It was whilst we were at the Excalibur that we decided to eat. Jules thought Dicks sounded interesting. As a concept, it is the antithesis of the high quality of service that we have experienced in the States. Dicks makes its name on calling the customer names. Dan thought that he had all the qualities needed to work there. Before being seated, we were squirted with water, table cloths and cutlery were thrown on the table and we were instructed to look at the menu and order quickly.
Elsewhere, a single female was being made to kiss the paunch of a red-thong wearing staff member. (I think that last sentence may be open to different interpretations of meaning but I leave it be, as it may add a little blackness to this fairly grey blog) Hats with slogans were made for the girls and all this adverse attention was a little too much for the youngest of the team. The food was plentiful and edible; certainly an improvement on the previous night but the entertainment was what we will be remembered the longest.
Mama Mia did not disappoint. It was a typical touring company with some strong voices. The performance was held together by the songs and some humour. The two backing singers were particularly worthy of note. The show rounded off the evening nicely.
